pH 5.5 protects your delicate acid mantle.

What is the acid mantle?
  • Our skins acid mantle is a very fine, slightly acidic film that lies on the surface of the skin and acts as a barrier to bacteria, viruses and other potential contaminants that might penetrate the skin and cause infection. It's secreted by sebaceous glands and it makes the pH of the skin between 4.5 and 6.2, so it is acidic. This is one of the reasons we need to be careful not to wash or exfoliate too much as it can take day's for the acid mantle to repair itself. Spots and skin eruptions may be cleared just by changing our cleansers and our cleansing routine.
What is pH?
  • pH stands for the power of hydrogen and is a figure expressing the acidity or alkalinity of a solution that contains water. The scale runs from 1- 14 of which 7 is neutral, lower values are more acidic and higher values more alkaline. The pH of the skin is between 4.5 and 6.2 depending on the area, the facial skin is approximately 5.5 and will not thrive with a pH that's too low or to high.
